A Little Time in The Kitchen Means More Zest For Life

April 27th, 2011

Roasted Leg of Lamb with Herbs and Garlic and Baked Chocolate Custard, sound good? Well that is what I am eating tonight courtesy of my paleo cookbook. A year ago next Tuesday I gave up stuffing my face with burgers, crisps, fizzy pop and general junk food and changed my life to the healthy eating habits of our forefathers.

Swapping Fast-Food for Slow-Food

I will be the first to admit that at first I was not happy about swapping fast food for slow food. I am a city exec with a son, so not much time for cooking. But what I realized after being on the paleo diet for a month was that the food I was eating previously made me so lifeless that all I could do after work was sit in front of the television and struggle to entertain my son with a few books and toys. Spending an extra 25-30 minutes a day preparing my paleo diet foods actually gave me the energy resources needed to exercise more and pay proper attention to my child even after a long day at work.

Convenient Cooking With a Wealth of Variety

The paleo cookbook is convenient and provides step by step instructions with easy navigation and quality pictures. It is helping educate me on how I should be raising my child, and made me realize that the reason I was addicted to bad food before was because I was always rewarded with sweets and junk as a child, so effectively I was eating for comfort as a substitute for love. Now I am running after work, playing with my son more and we are enjoying new paleo recipes together every week. I never envisioned that health could taste good and be more gratifying than a McDonald’s or can of Coke, but life is one big learning curve and for my son’s sake I am glad I learned this lesson.
